About 40 miles southwest of our Rochester yard. Austin is a food processing town before it is anything else, and food processing changes what a pallet has to be — cleaner, drier, traceable, and consistent enough that it never becomes the reason a line stops.
What Austin actually ships
Two of the largest pork processing operations in the state run in Austin, alongside frozen specialty foods, refrigerated trucking, and corrugated box manufacturing. Between the top few employers alone that is well over five thousand people, most of them moving product that is temperature-controlled and inspected.
That puts real constraints on the pallet. Heat treated rather than chemically treated. Stored dry, because a pallet that has been sitting in weather brings moisture into a plant that has spent a fortune keeping moisture out. Uniform, because automated lines do not tolerate the variation you get from a mixed pile of used stock.
We keep finished and unfinished inventory in climate-controlled warehousing for exactly this reason — so a spike in your schedule is a phone call, not a lead-time problem.

And what goes back
The truck does not have to come home empty. We buy and collect your empty pallets, and we will take baled or loose cardboard off the same dock on the same stop — which for most plants is corrugate they are currently paying a hauler to remove.
